Understaffing at Albany Medical Center is putting safe, quality patient care at risk in the Capital Region.

Nurses at Albany Medical Center have been sounding the alarm about unsafe staffing levels at the hospital. As frontline nurses, we know the firsthand dangerous impact of short staffing on the health and safety of our patients.

Due to understaffing, Albany Med—the only level one trauma center serving 17 counties in upstate New York—has the longest Emergency Department wait time in the state, and one of the worst in the nation.

For years, we have tried to bring awareness to the ongoing staffing crisis at Albany Med, and stressed that unsafe staffing ratios have a negative impact on patient care and outcomes. It’s time for Albany Med to stop ignoring the concerns of frontline nurses, and to settle a fair contract that includes enforceable safe staffing, fair pay to hire and retain nurses, and respect!
